Residential Development on Greenfield Site
Boon Brown has designed a residential development of 28 dwellings, including 10 affordable homes, on a greenfield site on the edge of a Somerset village. The low density development has been carefully designed around the existing services and public footpaths which bisect the site. This scheme provides a well-ordered layout that offers a gradual transition from village to the open countryside beyond. It has a range of two to four bedroom dwellings, dominated by smaller two and three bedroom units to appeal to local people looking for affordable housing or market housing at an attainable cost.
The development respects the character and context of its setting, and includes generous gardens, parking and landscaping. The layout is punctuated by a series of “events” such as a formal square, open space and shared courtyards, to give the scheme legibility and a sense of identity.
The houses are in a traditional style, influenced by the vernacular of Chilthorne Domer, the surrounding areas and the rural agricultural setting.
The designs submitted for planning were in response to extensive design development, Pre Application advice from the planning and landscape officers and feedback from presentations at two parish council meetings.
