Courthouse conversion to 120 bed hostel
The Grade II Listed courthouse, police station and holding cells were converted to hostel along with extensive new build extensions to the rear to provide 120 bedrooms and communal space.
The layout centres around the retention of the two oak clad courtrooms for lounge and internet cafe use and the original police cells at the rear, are used as bedroom accommodation. These cells were propped and excavated beneath during contruction to enchance the contruction of a full basement below.
New extensions lightly attach to the original building with planar glazed cladding and form new vertical cores to link the old and new floors.
